J-PLEx 7th Grade

J:PLEx: Anaf (7th Grade)

Recognizing how much happens during 7th grade,  Anaf :

  • Perfect the skills for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah – leading prayers, public speaking, and interpreting Jewish texts through B’nai Mitzvah Club
  • Tackle critical topics including the dangers of silence, the consequences of indifference and our imperative to repair the brokenness in our world.
  • Engage in meaningful study of the Holocaust and our connection to Israel

Bnai Mitzvah Club

Wish there was someone who knew what you were going through in your b’nai mitzvah process? Have questions about mitzvah projects, speeches, and more? Beginning approximately one year before a child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony, they join B’nai Mitzvah Club (BMC). At BMC they work in small groups to review prayers, work on preparation for their b’nai mitzvah, and have b’nai mitzvah mentors who have just been through the process and can help with all of the questions that come up. BMC meets every Wednesday and approximately two Sundays-a-month during J-PLEx. Twice a year there are luncheons for all BMC families and Friday night Shabbat services and dinner for all BMC families.

JTY Jr. (6th & 7th Grade)

JTY Jr is an awesome way to stay connected to your Temple Judea crew during the craziness of b’nai mitzvah preparations. We always have dinner and a crazy program and a couple of weekend programs, where you will get to hang out with your Temple Judea friends offsite. Middle school is a really busy time and JTY Jr is a great way to relax, have fun, and strengthen friendships

Rosh Hodesh: It’s A Girl Thing

Rosh Hodesh is a monthly club for 7th grade girls to come together to talk, learn, craft, and eat. We talk about issues facing teen girls, as well as learn about what it means to be a Jewish feminist in the world today. This is a great club for any girl who is not sure about her next step as a Jewish woman after her Bat Mitzvah. We will join together for dinner and discussion once-a-month on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00pm, after J-PLEx. Rosh Hodesh is a national program provided by Moving Traditions.

J-PLEx Philosophy

The mission of J-PLEx is to support the development of dedicated and knowledgeable Reform Jews. Our learners are encouraged to discover their own Jewish identity guided by the principles of derech eretz, (good character) and mitzvot (sacred conduct). We are committed to preparing our youth to comfortably engage in conversation with Jewish tradition, Torah, Eretz Yisrael (the land of Israel), and Klal Yisrael (the people Israel). J-PLEx accomplishes this mission through engaging and interactive learning experiences for all ages that grow out of the success of summer camp!
