We are proud to highlight some of the Mitzvah Projects that our 2011 B'nai Mitzvah class are involved in.
Jesse Miller - May 22, 2011 - 11 AM
I am in the 7th grade at Palmetto Middle School. I am grateful for my family, my friends and for all of the thinks I’m lucky enough to have in my life. My Bar Mitzvah means that I am becoming a man. I know that I will now have greater responsibilities as a Jew and in my daily life.
My Mitzvah Project was to raise money for The Miracle League of Miami. This organization builds special baseball fields so that kids with disabilities can play the game of baseball. I worked with two of my friends on this project. We sold t-shirts and took donations so that we could help The Miracle League meet their goal. Some of my other interests include playing sports, hanging out with my friends, going to camp every summer in Maine and, of course, playing X-Box.
Nicole Kantor - May 14, 2011 - 11 AM
My name is Nicole Kantor.I am a seventh grader attending GulliverAcademy where I am in the MYP/IB Program. Most of the time, you can find me playing tennis.Currently, I am on the Gulliver Middle School Girl’s Tennis Team. You can also find me playing the violin.Earlier this year, I was selected to play violin in the All-State Honors Orchestra, where I played in the first violin section. Most of the time for fun I enjoy playing football with my brother, Jacob.I also love to play basketball and watch sports on TV with my Dad.Another interest of mine is shopping with my Mom.We have so much fun! I am so grateful for my parents who put a roof over my head, dinner on the table, and provide me with a great education.
I am also grateful for my little brother, Jacob, who always supports me in everything I do.I am so thankful for having Gaby who helped to get my Prayers, Torah Portion, and Haftarah just right. When becoming a Bat Mitzvah, I know that I will have to take on more responsibilities as I become a young adult. I will have to become more mature and continue to learn about Judaism. In my Bat Mitzvah Project, I played my violin at The Palace and brought joy to their residents
Hannah Sekoff - May 7, 2011 - 11 AM
I am a 7th Grader at Gulliver Academy. I am grateful for everyone at Temple Judea who helped me prepare for my Bat Mitzvah. I am also grateful for my family, friends, soccer team, coaches and teachers. My Bat Mitzvah is meaningful to me because I have attended Temple Judea since pre-school and feel that I am accomplishing something that I will remember for my entire life. It is an important part of my Jewish education.
My Bat Mitzvah project is to collect sports equipment for a small school named "Escuela Daniel Campos" in Potosi, Bolivia. They love sports but do not have enough equipment to play. My interests are playing soccer, going to summer camp, riding roller coasters, and spending time with my family and friends.
Ari Temkin - April 30, 2011 - 11 AM
I am in the seventh grade at Leewood K-8. I am grateful for my family, my friends, my Jewish education I had at Greenfield Day School, and my good health. Having a Bar Mitzvah is very important to me. It means that I am a man spiritually and I am called up to the Torah for the first time. I am also given more responsibilities.
My Bar Mitzvah project is Operation Carmel to make Israel green again. I choose this project because of the fires that recently happened in Israel. Over five million trees were destroyed, and even the littlest donation can help replant the forest. My interests include sports, reading, writing, spending time with friends and family, and making videos.
Dylan Leathe - April 16, 2011 - 11 AM
I am in the seventh grade at Gulliver Academy. Some of my interests are football, chess, and computers. I also enjoy watching the news and discussing current events. For my mitzvah project I am "Kicking it to the Kids" by collecting soccer shoes for needy children.
I am grateful for my family and the excellent education I have received. Becoming a bar mitzvah means I am now responsible for the continuation of my Jewish education and the traditions of my religion.
